Amruta Mahuli

Project and role: Research Associate for the Fairwork Project at CITAPP, IIITB. Amruta contributes to multiple aspects of the Fairwork project including operationalizing Fairwork principles for the Indian context, legal analysis, desk research, and interviews with workers and platform companies.

Research interests: Amruta’s research interests are at the intersection of law, technology and welfare of the marginalized. Before joining the Fairwork team, she worked on a project that studied the entry of digital platforms in the domestic and care service industry in India where she contributed to a submission to the Ministry of Labour and Employment on the Code of Social Security Bill, 2019 on behalf of Centre for Internet and Society.

Education and work experience:

  • Master’s degree in Public Policy and Governance (MA)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (BSc) and Law (LLB)
  • Work experience as a data analyst, legal professional specializing in contract drafting and negotiation, and as a research intern for several tech policy-based think tanks.

CITAPP at IIIT Bangalore is an interdisciplinary think-tank set-up to focus on the policy challenges and the organizational demands made by technological innovation. Of particular interest to the Centre is how technological advances, along with institutional changes that harness the legitimacy and the powers of bureaucracies and market, address the needs of underserved communities.
