CITAPP at IIIT Bangalore is an interdisciplinary research and advocacy centre that focuses on the policy challenges and the organizational demands made by technological innovation. The Centre seeks to provide a means to nurture and transform public policy around the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in engagement with academia and researchers, policy planners, political leaders and community representatives, technology vendors, public officials and civil society organisations.
CITAPP conducts research and evaluation studies of topics where ICTs and public interest intersect. The Centre is also engaged in developing and teaching curricula that respond to the challenges and opportunities raised by innovations in digital technologies.
Ensure that the government has rigorous input when making policy choices for the future.
Empower the general public and enable advocacy
Traditional ICT applications focus on the analytical, data handling and hardware/software aspects of technology. In contrast, the Centre looks at technology as an enabler for empowering less-privileged social groups.
Assist in decision-making and build capacity
Help decision-makers understand and analyse the inter-relatedness of policy making, and the problems and issues associated with translating policy to action. Enhance capacities of decision makers to work with technology-enabled governance platforms.
Bring together the different kinds of technology that researchers are interested in, such as mapping and GIS, graphing and analytics, simulation tools, search and indexing technologies, and databases.
