Amit Prakash (Present)
Professor
Education : FPM (IIM Bangalore)
Amit Prakash is an Associate Professor at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bangalore. He has been involved in setting up the Institute’s Centre for IT and Public Policy (CITAPP), Centre for Accessibility in the Global South (CAGS) and E-Health Research Centre (EHRC). His interests lie in Information Systems and Public Policy, particularly in development sectors such as public health & nutrition, education & skill development, and food & livelihood security. The focus of his research and consulting efforts has been equity and inclusion in matters related to technology designs and policy choices.
Prior to joining academia, Amit worked for over 15 years at Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), on advisory assignments involving IT in Governance policies and digital technology designs. He has been part of national and regional committees and working groups tasked with formulating digital governance and development policies and has anchored design of large national and state level award winning e-Governance projects.
Amit serves as a resource person for the United Nations Asia-Pacific Centre for ICT and Development (UN-APCICT) and has conducted capacity enhancement sessions for senior government executives and political representatives in countries of South and South-East Asia. He is a Co-Founder of Vision Empower (http://www.visionempowertrust.org/), a not-for-profit trust working on accessible education for visually impaired, and serves as an Independent Director on the Board of itihaasa Research and Digital.
Amit has a doctoral degree in Information Systems from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee.

Balaji Parthasarathy (Present)

Balaji Parthasarathy joined IIITB in July 2000 as an Assistant Professor, and became a Professor in February 2013. He served as the Institute’s first Dean (Faculty) from January 2014 until February 2017. In 2014, he also co-founded IIITB’s Center for Information Technology and Public Policy. His intellectual interests are rooted in economic geography and economic sociology, and explore the relationships between technological change and innovation, economic globalization, and social transformation. Within this broad focus, his work follows two threads. One thread examines the impacts of public policies and firm strategies on the social and spatial organization of production in the ICT (information and communications technology) industry. Another thread deals with ICTs for Development or ICTD. Here, his interests lie in understanding how ICTs are deployed in various domains of activity to transform social relationships, especially in underprivileged contexts.

Bidisha Chaudhuri (Past)

Bidisha Chaudhuri is an Associate Professor in the domain of IT and Society. She received her PhD from South Asia Institute at Heidelberg University, Germany. She completed an M.A in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and a Joint European Masters in Global Studies from University of Leipzig (Germany) and Vienna University (Austria). She has worked in research institutions and developmental organisations in India and abroad. Prior to joining IIITB, she worked as a Postdoctoral Resaerch Associate at ISEC, Bangalore. Her current research projects include, information systems for sustaible development, politics of data and alogorithms, political economy of digital identity and sociology of work and automation and AI ethics.

Research Interests : Political economy of information-based development, privacy, critical social theory, algorithmic management of work, politics of work automation, situated learning at work, development theory, financial inclusion, ICTD, politics of identity systems
Janaki Srinivasan’s research examines the political economy of information technology-based development initiatives. She uses ethnographic research to examine how gender, caste and class shape the use of such technologies. Her work has explored these interests in the context of Indian digital inclusion initiatives focussed on community computer centres, mobile phones, identity systems and open information systems. Currently, she is exploring privacy, algorithmic control and the role of intermediaries in digital transactions, with an emphasis on the domains of financial inclusion and work automation. Janaki has a PhD in Information Management and Systems from UC Berkeley and Masters degrees in Physics and in Information Technology from IIT Delhi and IIIT Bangalore.

Preeti specializes in qualitative and ethnographic methods and analyses to study people and their social contexts around technology use. Her research approach combines the rigors of field immersion with observation and interview techniques to reveal insights about technologies and social media use and practices. She has a Master’s degree in Communication Studies and Defense and Strategic Studies from the University of Pune and a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Texas, Austin.

S. Rajagopalan (Present)

Dr. S. Rajagopalan received his B.Tech degree from IIT Delhi , PGDM from IIM Bangalore and Ph.D from IIT Kanpur. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology from 1982 to 1993 and was involved managing innovations that addressed the problems of Karnataka.. In 1993 he along with a few colleagues founded Technology Informatics Design Endeavour ( TIDE) a not for profit development society which focused on developing and disseminating technologies that are economically attractive, environmentally sustainable and socially acceptable in rural areas of Karnataka. He was its Chairman till 2007. For his work in TIDE ,he was awarded the Ashoka Fellow ( 1994), Fellow of the Salzburg Seminar ( 1999) , one of the four finalists of Social Entrepreneur of India award ( 2006) and one of the 50 pioneers of India chosen by India Today Magazine ( 2008). TIDE was awarded the International Green Oscar , the Ashden Award in 2008.
Dr Rajagopalan has been working in the area of Geographical Information Systems since 1989 and founded a Company Spatial Data Private Limited in 1999. This Company was pioneer in developing user-friendly digital maps of Indian Cities under the Brand Name Mapcue. Dr. Rajagopalan areas of interest includes innovation dissemination, economics of innovations, Geographical Information systems , and Economics of Information Technologies. He also heads the IIITB Innovation Centre, which aims at incubating and promoting innovations in the area of Information and Communication Technologies.

Dr. V. Sridhar is a Professor at the Centre for IT and Public Policy at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, India. He is the author of three books: Telecom Revolution in India: Technology, Regulation and Policy (2012), The Dynamics of Spectrum Management: Legacy, Technology, and Economics (2014), and Emerging ICT Policies and Regulations: Roadmap to Digital Economies (2019). His currently edited book titled Data-Centric Living: Algorithms, Digitization and Regulation is scheduled for publication in 2022 by Routledge. Dr. Sridhar has taught at many institutions in the USA, Finland, New Zealand and India. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California, U.S.A. during May-June, 2021. He has received funding from different sources, both national and international for his research projects, recent ones being from Facebook. He has been a member of Government of India committees on Telecom and IT and has published many peer-reviewed articles in telecom and information systems journals. He has also written more than 300 article in newspapers and magazines on telecom regulation in India. Dr. Sridhar has a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, U.S.A. Vinod Vyasulu (Past)
Advisor
Vinod Vyasulu, holds a Ph.D. from the School of Business Administration in the University of Florida. He has taught in the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and XLRI, Jamshedpur. He was Director of the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad, and held the RBI Chair in the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. He also had a stint as Economic Adviser for Small Scale Industries in the National Small Industries Corporation, Delhi. He was Director of the Centre for Budget and Policy Studies in Bangalore. Till recently he was Professor and Vice Dean at Jindal School of Government and Policy in Sonipat.

Nachiket Mor (Past)
Nachiket Mor is trained as an economist. His current work is principally focused on the design of national and regional health systems. He is a Visiting Scientist at The Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health and a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Information Technology and Public Policy at IIIT Bangalore.
