Workshop on Privacy and Global Data Protection: Case of India

Description: V. Sridhar organized a workshop on Privacy and Global Data Protection: Case of India on 2nd September at IIIT-B. This was organized in partnership with International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). This was part of the Bangalore KnowledgeNet Chapter meeting and included roundtable discussions on the following topics:

Aadhaar and Associated Privacy Issues: which aspects of privacy are being compromised; concerns that are being raised regarding violation of privacy, possibility of identity theft and government surveillance of residents

EU GDPR and the IT Industry: impact of GDPR cross data transfer regulation and its effects on the Indian IT industry

CITAPP at IIIT Bangalore is an interdisciplinary think-tank set-up to focus on the policy challenges and the organizational demands made by technological innovation. Of particular interest to the Centre is how technological advances, along with institutional changes that harness the legitimacy and the powers of bureaucracies and market, address the needs of underserved communities.
