The Fairwork India team, at IIITB’s Center for IT and Public Policy (CITAPP) and the Fairwork Project, announce the release of the Fairwork India Ratings 2022: Labour Standards in the Platform Economy report. The report examines the digitally mediated work conditions of India’s rapidly growing app-based workforce using a global benchmark for working conditions in the platform economy. In the fourth year of this study in India, twelve platforms have been scored, on a maximum of ten points, on five principles: Fair Pay, Fair Conditions, Fair Contracts, Fair Management, and Fair Representation. This year, the Fairwork report is structured around the theme of flexibility, which is often portrayed as a crucial dimension and benefit of platform work. The report delves into questions about who this flexibility is for and what it means for the income and social security of workers.
Balaji Parthasarathy and Janaki Srinivasan are the Principal Investigators, while Mounika Neerukonda, Amruta Mahuli, Bilahari M., Damni Kain, Pradyumna Taduri are the other researchers on the team in India.
