Amit Prakash receives the Marichi award for his work in the area of accessible education

Congratulations to Prof. Amit Prakash on receiving the Marichi award from Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal, former Union Education Minister, in New Delhi on 16th December 2023. He was recognized for his work in the area of accessible education for the visually impaired by the Indirapuram Group of Institutions.

The Indirapuram Group of Institutions recognised the on-going efforts at IIIT-B’s Centre for Accessibility in the Global South (CAGS) and Vision Empower, a not-for-profit enterprise established in 2017 to make STEM education accessible to visually impaired children in India. The team now works with over 120 schools for the blind in 14 states of India to ensure children with visual impairment experience the joy of learning on par with their sighted peers

CITAPP at IIIT Bangalore is an interdisciplinary think-tank set-up to focus on the policy challenges and the organizational demands made by technological innovation. Of particular interest to the Centre is how technological advances, along with institutional changes that harness the legitimacy and the powers of bureaucracies and market, address the needs of underserved communities.
