‘Emerging opportunities and challenges in a digital society’ – A CITAPP Symposium

About the symposium:

What are the salient features, and the emerging opportunities and urgent challenges, of the digital society we inhabit today? This symposium will reflect on CITAPP’s work in this domain over the past several years, followed by the release of a survey report authored by itihaasa Research and Digital. The report sheds light on the experiences of 1800 respondents across socio-economic categories  from the Bangalore Urban region, and highlights  their hopes and concerns around the use of digital technologies in their lives. A multidisciplinary panel of eminent academics will discuss the broader implications and future directions in the study of digital societies.

11:30-11:45 – Release of the itihaasa Digital Society survey report (Kris Gopalakrishnan, Debabrata Das), Overview of the report and key findings (N Dayasindhu, Krishnan Narayanan)

11:45-12:30 – Panel discussion on ‘The Emerging Digital Society: Opportunities and Challenges’ (Panelists: Sudhir Krishnaswamy-NLSIU, Rajalaxmi Kamath-IIMB, Krishnan Narayanan/N.Dayasindhu-itihaasa; Moderator: Balaji Parthasarathy, IIIT-B)

 

CITAPP at IIIT Bangalore is an interdisciplinary think-tank set-up to focus on the policy challenges and the organizational demands made by technological innovation. Of particular interest to the Centre is how technological advances, along with institutional changes that harness the legitimacy and the powers of bureaucracies and market, address the needs of underserved communities.
