Amit Prakash is an Associate Professor at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB). At IIITB, he is also the Convenor of the Centre for IT and Public Policy (CITAPP, http://citapp.iiitb.ac.in/) and is in the core team of the E-Health Research Centre (EHRC, http://ehrc.iiitb.ac.in/). He was actively involved in designing a unique and interdisciplinary masters programme in digital society at IIITB where he presently teaches courses in the areas of ICT and Development (ICTD), e-Governance, social complexity and systems thinking to students of its graduate programmes.

Amit’s broad research and consulting interests lie in the areas of Information Systems and Public Policy, particularly where they intersect with Development Sectors such as Public Health & Nutrition, Education & Skill Development and Livelihoods. His ongoing research projects have a focus on design and use of ICTs for improving the work content of frontline service delivery units and functionaries. His works have been published in national and international journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. He also writes for the popular press and his articles have appeared in the op-ed pages of national newspapers in India that include The Hindu, The Times of India and Deccan Herald in recent times.

Amit has worked extensively on advisory assignments related to public policy and e-Governance over his more than 15 years of association with organizations like Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). He has been part of national and regional committees and working groups tasked with designing Development and ICT policies. E-Governance projects coordinated by him, while at C-DAC, have received national-level awards in India during 2002-03 and 2003-04. Amit serves as a resource person for the United Nations Asia-Pacific Centre for ICT and Development (UN-APCICT) and has conducted capacity enhancement sessions for senior government executives in countries of South Asia. He serves as an Independent Director on the Board of itihaasa Research and Digital, a not-for-profit organization that works towards enhancing the understanding of Indian IT’s evolution, its impact and future trajectories.

Amit has an under-graduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (formerly, University of Roorkee) and a doctoral degree in Information Systems from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. His doctoral research was in the area of ICT and Development and explored the linkages of development conceptions and social contexts in the use of ICT enabled public service delivery interventions.
